Erkner

Erkner – it’s a city in Germany, it was founded in 1579,  there are around 12 thousands inhabitants. Erkner is surrounded by forests, lakes and meadows, situated in a major closeness to Berlin. The city has rich cultural life. The worth – seeing places are: GerhartHauptmann Museum – he was the  Nobelist, writer who lived in Erkner and write about the city and its inhabitants in his novels. Haimatsmuseum – it’s a museum which is led by the cultural association of retirees connected with the city. In this building you can learn the history of the city and about the life conditions of Erkner citizens as well as about the breakage caused by II World War.

Erkner is a city which has a sport spirit as it has modern sport infrastructure. The city is most worth visiting during the annual  Region Festival  with a colorful street parade which starts by the Domeritzsee lake by welcoming Hans the fisherman and his wife – legendary town founders. In the parade, historic figures connected with the city as well as characters from the Hauptmann’s novels, choirs, kindergartens, historic and sport companionships, dance clubs and firefighters are presented.

The partnership agreement between Erkner and Gołuchów was signed in May 2001. Since that time many organizations and institutions from both towns have initialized the cooperation. Among all schools started cooperation. Footballers took part in numerous sport events. During cultural events in Gołuchów artists from Erkner dance and theatrical clubs were presented. Folk bands from Gołuchów Community “Tursko” and “Żychlinioki” have presented their folk heritage in Erkner.

Council of Gołuchów Community awarded the Mayor of Erkner Joachim Schulze – who was the mainspring of the partnership between this two communities, the title: Honored Citizen of Gołuchów Community.

There was also a photo display organized on the occasion of 5 years of cooperation jubilee. Photographs have shown Gołuchów and Erkner citizens life. In the Forestry Cultural Center in Gołuchów there was presented a painting display of Erkner artists. Artists from Erkner took part in artistic project organized by Forestry Cultural Center. Pensioners associations from Erkner and Gołuchów started their partnership cooperation as well. In the last 4 years two associations from Gołuchów and Erkner have developed very tightly and active cooperation on the field of social policy.
